On February 18th I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Irwin Goldstein on Instagram Live. Here is a little background on Dr. Goldstein:

Dr. Irwin Goldstein is the director of San Diego Sexual Medicine, where he maintains his clinical practice, Director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital and Clinical Professor of Surgery at University of California at San Diego. Dr. Goldstein has had a long career providing medical help to those with sexual problems, having been involved with sexual dysfunction research since the late 1970′s.

Dr Goldstein’s interests include regenerative therapies for men and women, surgery for dyspareunia, physiologic investigation of sexual function in men and women, and diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunction in men and women. He has authored more than 350 publications in the field of sexual dysfunction, with 20 consecutive years of funding by the National Institutes of Health in this area.

While the month of February may mean romance and sex for some people, too many women of all ages are struggling with painful sex. Research shows that an interdisciplinary treatment approach works to restore pleasurable sex, and this IG Live provided evidence-based information and hope for people who are suffering.

During the interview we referenced a few publications that people inquired about:

When Sex Hurts, by Andrew Goldstein, Caroline Pukall, and Irwin Goldstein

  • This book is intended for patients

Female Sexual Pain DisordersAndrew Goldstein, Caroline Pukall, and Irwin Goldstein

  • This is a textbook intended for medical Providers

Pelvic Pain Explained, by me and Elizabeth Akincilar

We hope you find this interview helpful, we know many women are struggling to find answers and that there are more patients than providers available to help. We are working hard to change that. We would love to hear your thoughts, comments and questions, please share them below!
