Physical therapists are specially trained through rigorous post-graduate education in pelvic floor anatomy and physiology to address a wide array of pelvic health needs. While physical and occupational therapy has long existed, the pelvic floor specialization is a more recent yet rapidly growing field—and we’re proud to be involved in its advancement. Even with this focused training, we maintain our identity as physical and occupational therapistss first, treating each patient with a whole-body and whole-mind approach to care.

Our expertise allows us to help those struggling with symptoms rooted in the urologic, reproductive, musculoskeletal, nervous, or gastrointestinal systems. Pelvic health complaints typically involve bladder or bowel dysfunction, sexual issues, or general pelvic pain. These symptoms often have multiple causes, such as surgery, injury, pregnancy, menopause, trauma, or medication-related effects. If you’re from Poway and dealing with any of these challenges, we invite you to browse through our website for further information on the conditions we address.

Treatment:

How We Can Help You

pelvic pain rehab

If you’re living with pelvic health issues, getting a pelvic floor physical and occupational therapy evaluation is a crucial step toward feeling better. During this evaluation, your physical and occupational therapists will review your medical history, symptoms, previous diagnoses, and what treatments you’ve had so far—along with how effective they’ve been. We recognize that many patients from Poway reach us after exhausting other options, and we are committed to helping you find answers and relief.

As part of your physical evaluation, the therapist will examine your muscles, tissues, joints, nerves, and movement strategies to identify any contributing factors. Once the evaluation is complete, the therapist will explain the findings in detail, helping you understand what may be causing your symptoms. Using this information, an assessment is created that lays out the origins of your condition and sets both short- and long-term goals for your recovery.

In general, treatment sessions occur one to two times per week over the course of roughly 12 weeks. You’ll also be given a take-home exercise program that aligns with your in-office visits to maximize your progress. Your physical and occupational therapists will work collaboratively with your full care team to ensure your Poway-based treatment is coordinated and cohesive. We’re here to walk with you on the road to recovery—so you can regain strength and enjoy life again.
