Statistics show up to 60% of women experience female pelvic pain at some point in their lives. The reasons women develop pelvic pain are multi-factorial, stemming from a number of causes. The vulvovaginal area can be affected by hormones, medications that influence our hormones such as oral contraceptives and acne medications, childbirth, disease, infections, and pelvic surgeries. Regardless of the reason that pelvic pain develops, research shows that the pelvic floor muscles are almost always a cause or contributing factor to the pain and physical therapy helps.
