Pudendal Neuralgia is a pelvic pain syndrome that affects both men and women. Most simply defined, pudendal neuralgia causes nerve-like pain in the areas the pudendal nerve travels to.

The pudendal nerve innervates the skin of the vulva, labia, and clitoris in women and the scrotum and penis in men. It also innervates the perineum and anus in men and women as well as a portion of the urethra, and part of the rectum and vagina, and the majority of the pelvic floor muscles. It has a vast distribution and when problems arise, people may experience pain in any of those areas and have issues with urinary, bowel, and/or sexual function.

The exact prevalence of pudendal neuralgia is unknown at this time. Pelvic floor physical therapy is the 1st-line and effective treatment for this pelvic pain syndrome.
