When it comes to pain management during labor, most of us think of medical interventions such as an epidural or pain medication. Did you know that there are things that your doula, support person, midwife, partner or even OB can do to decrease pain?

When I’m working with patients to help them prepare for birth, one of the things we always work on is figuring out how the people supporting them can help during labor. Below are some strategies we try that may help decrease pain during labor and birth.

Please check with your provider and healthcare team to make sure that these are safe for you and to make sure that you are performing them correctly. Additionally, birth should not be the first time that you try these. It is important to practice beforehand so that everyone can be on the same page.
